What exactly is the Process?

The entire custom process from start to finish averages around 6-10 weeks assuming everything is done in a timely manner.

A rush can be put on any order for an additional fee. A rush order is placed at the front of the production list. The additional cost will vary.

Keep in mind this is an average.  Some projects fall below and above this time line.  Please contact Chaya for more information.

Stages of the Custom Process

1. Contact Chaya for a consult.

Project discussion can be done in person, over the phone or via e-mail.  Because of her holistic approach to design, it is important for you to be prepared with the following:

  • What do you want to have made?
  • What materials do you want to use?  Do you have your own?
  • Who is it/are they for?
  • What is the person like?
  • What is your budget (if any)?
  • Any critical due date to keep in mind?

2. Design Stage

  • To begin the design process, Chaya requires a $150.00 – $300.00 non-refundable deposit.  This is to cover the time involved in the design process and will be absorbed into the overall budget for the piece.
  • She will create some preliminary drawings based on your information and a budget range and share them either in person or via email.
  • The design stage is a critical element in the Custom Process in order to clearly outline the design concept and budget for the project.

3. Design Proposal

  • Once you have approved a design, Chaya will prepare a Proposal.  This will clearly layout the time line, details of the project with renderings and a cost proposal.
  • Upon request, Chaya will list the costs for the project for more than one material.  This is extremely helpful when deciding between materials such as silver, gold and platinum.  Chaya is skilled at working in all of the precious metals and can help you understand the pros and cons of the different materials (for example: density factors, luster, durability).
  • To give you an idea on price, most projects fall between $600.00 – $1100.00 plus materials.
  • Factors such as project complexity and material credit can alter this estimate.  For example, Chaya does a lot of work integrating people’s precious stones into custom designs.  She can also accept old metal as credit toward the project or in some cases the metal can be re-used directly into the new project.

4. 2nd Deposit and Project Commencement

  • Once we have agreed on a project and budget, you will be asked to sign a copy of the proposal and provide a second deposit, equal to half of the remaining balance.

  • The work agreement will specifically outline the scope of the project, projected date of completion and cost.

5. Project Creation

  • This is the stage where Chaya starts to build the piece.  Depending on the process chosen, you may or may not have much involvement in this stage.

Here are some possible scenarios:

  • Chaya fabricates the piece and contacts you when ready to ship.
  • Chaya carves a model out of wax that you will need to approve before casting.
  • Chaya builds a model in CAD – Computer Aided Design – and sends you pictures for approval.  Once approved, a wax is milled and will need final approval before casting.
  • Chaya creates a prototype out of metal for approval before making the piece in gold or platinum.
  • Anything that needs approval can be done either in person or via email.

6. Project Completion

  • Once the project is complete and ready to ship, the remaining 50% of the balance will be due. Chaya will contact you either by email or by phone to discuss details regarding pick-up or shipping.  Please keep in mind that all custom order sales are final.
